William Danvers is a Senior Advisor to Blue Star Strategies, LLC. Mr. Danvers has worked on national security issues for over 35 years in the U.S. Executive branch and Congress, international organizations, and the private sector. Mr. Danvers also serves as a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, where he works on a range of national security issues.
Previously, Mr. Danvers served as deputy secretary-general of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). He was responsible for a range of issues, including relations with partners and nonmember nations, the organization’s accession process, anti-bribery and anti-corruption programs, and the Science, Technology and Innovation Directorate, including cyber-security related programs.
In the Obama administration, Mr. Danvers worked for Leon Panetta at the CIA and at the Pentagon and also for Secretary of State John Kerry as deputy staff director. In the Clinton administration, Mr. Danvers worked for Ambassador Strobe Talbott on post-Soviet relations with Russia at the Department of State and served in the White House as special assistant to the president for national security affairs and senior director for legislative affairs at the National Security Council.
Mr. Danvers' background includes serving in the U.S. Congress in the House of Representatives as staff director for the House Banking Subcommittee on International Finance, Trade and Monetary Policy and a legislative assistant for foreign affairs and press secretary. He also served in the Senate as a legislative aide to former Senator Joseph Lieberman and as staff director of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
Mr. Danvers also worked in the private sector for 10 years on a range of international issues and was an adjunct professor at The George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs. He received a B.A. with highest honors from Michigan State University and an M.A. from The George Washington University. Mr. Danvers has been married for 31 years and has two adult children.
