Aaron Schumacher is an Associate at Blue Star Strategies, LLC, where he focuses on enhancing foreign investment opportunities in Latin America as well as leading Blue Star's digital media strategies. With his broad experience living and working in the Western Hemisphere, he is familiar with a variety of areas, including energy, trade, education, economic development and democratic governance.
Previous work includes helping to craft digital media campaigns for clients at Edelman Public Relations, as well as working with both multilateral organizations and civil society groups to help administer the National Democratic Institute's democracy and human rights programs in Latin America. While living and studying in Argentina for a year, he taught English and worked in the Buenos Aires office of Llorente & Cuenca, Latin America's largest communications firm. Prior to that, he interned at the Council of the Americas, providing research for op-eds and congressional testimonies and focusing on issues such as the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement, U.S.-Mexico relations and immigration, the rising political and economic clout of Brazil and the use of traditional and alternative energy sources in the region.
He is also currently on the staff of Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) and on the Board of Directors of the Washington, DC chapter of AMIGOS de las Americas.
He graduated from Tufts University, concentrating in International Relations, Economics and Latin American Studies. He was a staff writer for Tufts' daily newspaper and is fluent in Spanish.
